Magnesium hydroxide is a fine, white or almost white, amorphous powder, practically insoluble in water. It dissolves in dilute acids. It can be described by the following molecular formula: Mg(OH)2
Applications*
Magnesium hydroxide is mainly used in pharmaceutical applications but it can find applications in cosmetic and food too;
as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) for its acid-neutralizing capacity for the treatment of peptic ulcers and gastric hyperacidity both in liquid and solid forms
as API for its laxative properties (it encourages bowel movements by drawing water into the bowel from surrounding body tissues, increasing water in the intestine), in the constipation treatment, both in liquid and solid forms
as API as source of magnesium in certain pharmaceutical products
as Chemical reagent as a source of magnesium for the preparation of other pharmaceutical magnesium based compounds
as absorbent and pH adjuster in cosmetics
as a nutrient supplement, pH control agent and processing aid in food processing
