SOCAL® R1E Food Grade is a Precipitated Calcium Carbonate. It is a white powder, odourless, practically insoluble in water.

Special characteristics are:

• very high fineness

• high brightness

• very high purity.

SOCAL® R1E Food grade meets the purity criteria of the European and American legislation (95/45 EC and FCC V).

Limits chosen for SOCAL R1E Food Grade are a combination of the most restrictive ones between the European and the American food legislations.

With its low lead content (<0.5 ppm), SOCAL® R1E Food Grade is suitable for use in dietary and nutritional supplements where California Proposition 65 is concerned.

SOCAL® R1E Food Grade is produced in Ebensee (Austria) on the basis of the HACCP principles.

Calcium Carbonate is listed in the "European Parliament and Council Directive 94/36/EC" concerning food additives (colours) authorised for use in foodstuffs intended for human consumption. Calcium Carbonate is categorised in food legislation as E170.

It is also listed in the United States Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 21 Part 73.1070 “Calcium carbonate as a colour Additive approved for use in drugs”.
Per US FDA regulations (21 CFR 184.1191), Calcium Carbonate is listed as direct food substances affirmed as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) with no limitation other than current good manufacturing practice.
